What are the new funding rules for the academic programme?
Studying isn't easy, and you don't always get it right the first time...
So to answer the question: "How much time do you have to complete your studies successfully?", the system has been simplified to make it easier for you to know where you stand in your studies.
For your bachelor's degree
If you are enrolling in a first cycle of study leading to an academic degree of 180 credits, you must have acquired :
Please note that in certain cases, you may benefit from special rules:
In the event of reorientation
If you change your study focus during your bachelor's degree, and only once during your cycle, you will be entitled to an additional enrolment for all the success criteria (except for the minimum EU), and therefore to 6 years instead of 5 years, in order to complete a 180-credit bachelor's degree:
- If you change direction after 1 year as a bachelor (and therefore after your first year in the cycle), you will have to successfully complete the first 60 credits of your new programme at the end of your 3rd registration in the cycle. You must have passed 120 credits of your new programme by the end of your fifth year and 180 credits of your new programme by the end of your sixth year in the cycle.
If you change direction after enrolling twice for the bachelor's degree, and only once during your course, you will be entitled to 2 additional enrolments for all the success criteria (except for the minimum EU), and therefore 7 years instead of 5 years, to obtain a 180-credit bachelor's degree:
- If you change direction after 2 years as a bachelor, you will have to pass the first 60 credits of your new course at the end of your 4th enrolment in the cycle. You must have passed 120 credits of your new course by the end of your sixth enrolment in the course, and 180 credits of your new course by the end of your seventh enrolment in the course.
Exception to the rule of 60 credits in 2 years
Please note that this exception does not apply if you finish your second enrolment in a programme in 2023-2024 and you are authorised to continue your studies with 45 credits.
In certain cases, the board may, on its own initiative, authorise a student to enrol for a 3rd year in the same programme if he or she successfully completes 60 credits and at least 50 credits from Block 1 at the end of the two years. This does not, however, constitute an obligation for the board. In order to remain eligible for funding, students must successfully complete the remaining Block 1 credits at the end of their third enrolment. If a student fails to obtain the 60 credits of the Block 1 of his or her programme after 3 years in a cycle, he or she will no longer be eligible for funding in that programme or in any other programme.
Furthermore, in certain cases, and again without this constituting an obligation, the board may decide to allow a student, who has successfully completed less than 30 credits during his or her first enrolment but at least 50 Block 1 credits at the end of his or her second enrolment, to enrol for a 3rd time in the same programme. In order to remain eligible for funding, the student must pass the remaining Block 1 credits at the end of the third enrolment.
Special cases
- Specialisation bachelor's degree (60 credits) : students must have passed all their credits after 2 enrolments in the specialisation bachelor's degree.
For your master
If you are enrolling in a second cycle of study leading to a 60-credit or 120-credit academic degree, you must have acquired :
Please note that in certain cases, you may benefit from special rules:
In the event of reorientation
If you change your study focus during your master's degree (60, 120 or 180 credits), you will be entitled to an additional enrolment for all the success criteria.
If you reorientate yourself after two enrolments in a master's programme (60, 120 or 180 credits), you will be entitled to 2 additional enrolments for all the success criteria.
If you need to add extra credits to your master's degree
If you have a maximum of 30 additional credits, you will have an extra year to obtain your degree.
PLEASE NOTE: After two years in the cycle, you must have successfully completed a minimum of 60 credits, including the additional credits.
If you have between 31 and a maximum of 60 complementary credits, you will have two extra years to obtain your diploma.
PLEASE NOTE: After two years in the cycle, you must have successfully completed a minimum of 60 credits, including additional credits.
Special cases
- Masters of 180 credits: the student must have completed 60 credits after two enrolments in the programme, 120 credits after four enrolments in the programme and all the credits in the programme after six enrolments in the programme.
- Advanced masters 60 credits: students must have successfully completed all their credits after 2 enrolments in the advanced masters programme.
Notes
- Regardless of the cycle in which you are enrolled, in the event of a reduced programme, you will benefit from an additional half-enrolment in the cycle concerned. When calculating the cycle, the sum of the additional registrations is rounded up to the nearest whole number.
- Regardless of the course in which you are enrolled, you will always be eligible for funding in a programme if you have acquired all the credits in the previous year in that programme (with a minimum of 45 credits, except in the case of a reduced programme).
- The years leading up to the award of an academic degree are not counted.
- You can become eligible for funding again if you have not been enrolled in full-time higher education for the previous 5 academic years.
