Long higher education programmes
The long type consists of two cycles: a bachelor's degree (180 credits), followed by a master's degree (generally 120 credits, sometimes 60).
Some masters programmes may have a specific focus:
- The master’s degree with a specialist focus targets professional or artistic skills in a given field.
- The master's degree with a teaching focus includes specific pedagogical training and gives access to the teaching profession in secondary education in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. Please note that there are several different routes to becoming a teacher. See the section on "What you should study to become a teacher" for more information.
- The master’s degree with a research focus degree prepares you for scientific or artistic research. It is only organised by universities and art colleges as part of a joint programme with a university.
Special cases:
- 2nd cycle studies in medicine and veterinary medicine have 180 credits and lead to a degree in medicine or veterinary medicine.
- Some master's degrees consist of 60 credits and provide direct access to employment.
